Do you love the United States of America? Do you thank God and pray for the USA?
We were recently challenged with this question: “When was the last time you spent an hour, or even a half-hour, praying for America?”
We certainly pray for America, and share the concerns that many Christians have about the direction we are headed. It should come as no surprise that God’s got the answers covered in Scripture:
2Chronicles 7:14 - “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
That ‘if’ statement means there’s some accountability on our part in order for God to fulfill His promise. ‘If’ you’ll do this, I’ll do that.
According to Scripture, there are five things we must do in order for God to heal our land:
Be a person called by God’s name. In other words, when people see you, do they see a life lived according to God’s standards? Does His Holy Spirit reside in you and are others seeing the ‘Jesus’ in you?
Be humble. Humility is the opposite of pride. Would someone describe you as being humble? meek? modest? respectful? … or … negative, conceited, arrogant, disrespectful?
Pray. Be specific in what you are asking God to do. Make a prayer list to help you remember exactly what you are praying for and why.
Seek God’s face. Truly worship Him and seek His presence and favor. Develop an intimate relationship with Him and His Word.
Turn from your wicked ways. Recognize your sin and the ungodly traits you possess, confess and repent them to God, and turn from them; live in complete harmony with the Word of God and His will.
‘If’ we do those five things, God promises to forgive our sin and heal our land. Watch related video
Christ-followers, we serve a sovereign God! We are to be salt and Light to a world in darkness. We are soldiers in His army and it is way past time for us to put on the full armour of God and go to battle, turning this nation away from the worldly downward spiral we are in. Romans 8:31-32 – “What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
God is in control, always has been! Romans 13:1-2 – “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
The upcoming midterm election is critical. Your vote counts. Christ-followers can have a tremendous impact on the future of our nation … the future of our children and grandchildren … if we vote our biblical values and strive to live according to God's will.
Stand up for Jesus … He laid down His life for you!
