I’ve always felt it is good to be different, to 'walk-to-the-beat-of-your-own-drum'. As Christians, God calls us to be different, or in His words, “peculiar”. God says, 'don’t be wicked, full of envy and deceit, disobedient to parents, without natural affection' …generally, if the world is accepting something, God doesn't. For starters, how about cleaning up our mouths? Foul language is everywhere … dare to be peculiar! “Holy” means “set apart”. There ought to be a difference in God’s people; we are to be “set apart” from the rest.
Psalms 135:4 - “For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.” Deuteronomy 14:2 - “For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.” Titus 2:11-14 – “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Ephesians 5:8-12 – “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.”
Today’s Song talks about being different -- “God, I don't wanna hear anymore, teach me to listen; I don't wanna see anymore, give me a vision; that you could move this heart, to be set apart. I don't need to recognize the man in the mirror and I don't wanna trade Your plan for something familiar. I can't waste a day, I can't stay the same … I wanna be different! I wanna be changed until all of me is gone and all that remains is a fire so bright the whole world can see that there's something different … So God, come and be different in me! I don't wanna spend my life stuck in a pattern, and I don't wanna gain this world but lose what matters. So I'm giving up everything because I wanna be different for you, Lord!”
