As generations pass, it seems more men are becoming passive in their biblically-appointed spousal and parental role. For some, doing nothing is the easiest option and they gladly let the wife/mother assume the role of leader, contrary to God’s plan. A strong Christian wife is well advised to guide her husband to the design God has provided in His Word.
The template for a man (servant / leader) to conform to is indeed found in the Bible. When properly applied, the Bible will cause you to behave properly, become peculiar and develop as a unified team with those you encounter ... especially your spouse.
Christian men must be leaders
When Christ is the head of the man (husband), the man is then the head of the marriage. 1Corinthians 11:3 - “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
As the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives are likewise to their husbands. Ephesians 5:22-24 - “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.”
Men are to love their wife as their own body. He who loves his wife, loves himself. Ephesians 5:25-30
In no way does the Bible imply that man is to presume a right to a role of dominance over his wife. Nowhere in the Bible does God imply woman be treated less than man. The Bible clearly states that all humanity (when saved) are equal as His children. Galatians 3:26-28 - “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
Are you a leader? Although woman and man are equal spiritually, some men and women degrade their spouses through emotional and sometimes physical neglect. In the beginning, God presented Eve to Adam in the Garden as his helper and Adam realized her as a precious God-valued gift.
When men, particularly Christian husbands, don’t treat their wife as a precious gift from God, they defy and destroy God’s design and spiritual beauty of marriage.
