Memorial Day 2022

It’s Memorial Day, the American holiday observed on the last Monday in May, which began as “Decoration Day” in 1971, to honor U.S. military men and women. While many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades, for some it has become just a day off work and the beginning of the summer season. Meant for so much more, Memorial Day is about remembering those who serve or have served for the freedoms we enjoy.

Read here how the symbolism of the poppy flower honoring our military started with a poem written by a World War I brigade surgeon who was struck by the sight of the red flowers growing on a ravaged battlefield.

Today is about sacrifice. While we remember our service men and women, also remember and thank Jesus, Who gave the ultimate sacrifice. 1John 2:2 - “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Romans 5:8- “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice. His resurrection offers an eternal gift. Won't you accept it? Remember the sacrifice.
