The dictionary defines ‘Ocean’ as the vast body of water that covers 71 percent of the earth. There are four named oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic ... and the Southern (Antarctic) is a newly-named fifth ocean. Sea is defined as a body of salty water that covers 71 percent of the earth and is partly surrounded by land. There are about 50 seas around the world. The sea moderates earth's climate and has important roles in the water, carbon and nitrogen cycles.
The Bible does not contain the word ‘ocean’ but refers to the ocean as ‘sea’ or ‘the sea’. Micah 7:18-19 – “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. 19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
Christ-followers can rest in His loving embrace without fear, knowing the Holy Spirit is with us. Call on Him to take you deeper, to make your faith stronger. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to where your trust is without borders. Habakkuk 2:14 - “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
You call me out upon the waters … the great unknown, where feet may fail;
And there I find You in the mystery, in oceans deep.
My faith will stand, and I will call upon Your name;
And keep my eyes above the waves when oceans rise.
My soul will rest in Your embrace, for I am Yours and You are mine.
Remember, Jesus walks on water! So when the seas arise, Let Him be your guide. He’ll keep your eyes above the waves until all is calm again. Isaiah 43:2a - “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:…”
