The Thanksgiving holiday is coming up and soon Christian families will gather together to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and provision, and to remember the harvest feast of the early settlers and other blessings of the past year.

The world celebrates by eating too much, watching football and hitting the ‘Black Friday’ sales. But what if you woke up this morning with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?
Psalms 106:47 - “Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.”
Thanksgiving became a national holiday in 1863. During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving “as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” Lincoln continued,“… and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union.”

"Heavenly Father, we come before You today, not to ask for anything but humbly giving thanks for all You have done for us. We appreciate You, Father, for sending Your Son to die on that old rugged Cross to redeem us of our sins. Thank you, Jesus for enduring so much pain and suffering for our salvation. We pray that we will be blessed with the same kind of strength to endure life for Your sake.
We thank You for blessing our nation and giving our leaders wisdom and guidance so that Your will is accomplished for our great country. We give You thanks for giving us, and our family and loved ones, health and strength. We thank You for feeding those who are hungry and more importantly for the spiritual food You give us through Your Word. Thank you for bringing us together today and for this banquet You have set before us.
Oh Lord, thank You for Your unconditional, undying, never-failing, endless Love that graces us each day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen."While giving thanks, consider thanking those who have said ‘yes’ in obedience to God’s commands which in turn impacted your spiritual walk and/or the walk of others. Thanks to the Pastors, Sunday School teachers, missionaries, disciplers, Christian TV and radio, Bible printing ministries, Christian song writers … and countless others … who have sewn seeds of how to spend eternity in Heaven with our Lord. Because of your willingness to share the Love of Jesus and the powerful Word of God, many people are now able to call heaven their eternal home.
Thank you, Christ-followers, for giving to the Lord! And thank You, God!
2Corinthians 9:15 - “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”
As with any tradition or holiday, how you celebrate is a matter of choice. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday … what’s next? Don’t let the world influence your choices, or how you celebrate traditions or holidays.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are about God and His blessings!
It is good to give, and who doesn’t want a good deal? Switch it up this year. If you are a ‘Black Friday’ shopper, being out in the masses certainly provides opportunity to share the Love of Jesus. Take some Bible tracts with you and pass them out while you’re waiting in line. Also consider shopping retailers which promote Christian values (Hobby Lobby, Chick-fil-A, Mardel, In-N-Out Burger, etc.).
Acts 20:35 - “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
If you plan on shopping at home on ‘Cyber Monday,’ pray about who you can purchase and ship a gift to. Maybe a widow, orphan or anyone you know who is in need, or who is alone during the holidays.
James 1:27 - “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
Consider what God has blessed you with and give back to Him by supporting missionaries, ministries or those who use donations to spread the true Word of God.
It’s a busy world. Take a breather! Relax during the holidays this year. Rest at His feet and thank Him; glorify His name with each day He gives you, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
