Start Talking to Jesus

Today’s song is a story put to music. It’s about a boy reflecting on the spiritual influence of his grandmother and mother, leading Him to a prayer life and relationship with Jesus, which in turn he teaches his children.

James 5:16b – “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

It is our responsibility as parents and grandparents to teach our children about Jesus. Teach them to pray and read the Bible at a young age so they develop the ‘daily routine’ and grow their relationship with the Lord. However, if you were not taught about Jesus as a child, it is never too late to meet Him, serve Him and teach about Him!

Proverbs 22:6 - “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Grandma used to pray out loud by her bed every night. To me, it sounded like she was out of her mind. She said, “Boy, this kind of praying is what saved my life! You oughta try it some time.” Now I know she was right. She was talking to Jesus and talked to Him all of her life. Mama used to drag me to church Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights; khaki pants and a polo shirt; Boy, I put up a fight! She said, “Son, one day you’ll thank me for having God in your life." Yeah, my mama was right … ‘cause now I’m talking to Jesus … I Love Talking to Jesus! What a Friend we have in Jesus ! And I’ll be talking to Jesus for the rest of my Life.

Matthew 21:22 - “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

I’ve got 3 of my own now, trying to raise them up right. My oldest is 15; I remember what that was like ... trying to deal with the drama, trying to figure out life. I’ve been looking for a way to show him how to make it alright. Then he walked in my room while I was saying my prayers the other night. He said, “I’ll come back later, I can tell you've got a lot on your mind.” I said, “It’s not an interruption, you couldn’t have picked a better time, ‘cause I was just talking to Jesus, come over and give it a try.” We started talking to Jesus … now he’s talking to Jesus! I pray he’s talking to Jesus for the rest of his life.
There’s no wrong way to do it, there’s no bad time to start; it doesn’t have to sound pretty, just tell him what’s on your heart. It’s not a religion, it’s more like a friendship. Just talk to your Father like you are his kid. Just start talking to Jesus … you can talk to Him whenever you like. Start talking to Jesus … and keep talking to Him for the rest of your life!

John 15:15 - “Henceforth I call you not servants … but I have called you friends …”
