E'DEN, n. Heb. pleasure, delight. The first Book of the Bible, called Genesis, describes a beautiful garden where God placed the first man, Adam, and gave him the responsibility of tending to the garden.
Genesis 2:15 - “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”
Read the biblical account of ‘The Garden of Eden’ here.
Even in this paradise garden, man had to work. Mankind was not brought into the world to be idle. We were created for a divine purpose.
Soon after God created Adam, he created Eve as Adam’s help mate.
Genesis 2:18 - “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
God’s garden was beautifully adorned with all the desired conveniences, and trees which bore fruit pleasant in sight and taste, as well as the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In these trees, God set before Adam and Eve good (life, fruit-yielding trees) and evil (God said it was not good to eat of the tree of knowledge) … the blessing and the curse.
The ‘tree of the knowledge of good and evil’ was God’s will for mankind to know moral good and evil. What is good? It is good not to eat of this tree. What is evil? It is evil to eat of this tree.
Genesis 2:9 - “And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
Eden signifies delight and pleasure. God Himself provided everything in His garden. Whether or not Almighty God puts us in a place of plenty and pleasure, we should serve Him with a thankful heart for all His provision.
“The earth did not bring forth its fruits of itself: this was done by Almighty power. Thus grace in the soul grows not of itself in nature's soil, but is the work of God. Rain also is the gift of God; it came not till the Lord God caused it. Divine grace comes down like the dew …” ~Matthew Henry

Revelation 2:7 - “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
