The Prodigal

Most of us are familiar with the parable of the prodigal son (read story here). But notice that the story is just as much about the father as it is his two sons. The father is anxious for his son to come back home … much like our Heavenly Father is anxious for His children who have strayed to come back to Him!

Luke 15:17-20 “And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”

PROD'IGAL, noun One that expends money extravagantly or without necessity; one that is profuse or lavish; a waster; a spendthrift.

Watch this heartwarming modern adaptation of the Bible story.

The story from God’s Word says that the youngest son took his inheritance and left. After spending all his money and realizing his mistake, he decided to return home. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by his father with open arms.

Have you or someone you know strayed away from God? He promises in His Word that if we confess our sins, He will forgive us.

1John 1:9 - “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If you are the prodigal child, don’t believe satan’s lies ... go home! You ARE loved, and WILL be welcomed home with open arms. Take that step … there’s no place like home!

Christ-followers, some day soon, God will meet His children and welcome us to our heavenly home!
