Cup of Joe and the dying star

Is coffee included in your “best part of waking up” routine? Ya just gotta have that cup of Joe? It is said that Americans are drinking more coffee than ever … averaging just over 3 cups per day, per person, with medium roast the favorite. Coffee comes in many varieties -- traditional drip, gourmet, iced, espresso-based, you name it; there are a bajillion flavored-creamer varieties for those who have coffee with their creamer! Without getting into detailed health “benefits” of coffee drinking, suffice it to say, coffee is full of caffeine, creamers are loaded with calories and fat, sugar is … well, sugar! … and artificial sweeteners are always a no-no (they cause weight gain and a number of health problems) … are you listening, diabetics?

It is sad to see the long lines at “Starbucks” in the mornings. Their corporation supports anti-Christian causes and their logo is creepy. There are superior coffee choices that are “good to the last drop”. Maybe coffee isn’t your thing … don’t forget how important water is to the body … and The Living Water quenches all thirst!

Everything in our possession is God’s, including $$ … we are simply stewards. Our spending choices should reflect our Christian values. Like the parable of the talents, it’s not about what we’re given, it’s about what we do with what we’ve been given. We all need to ask ourselves, “Am I giving God the same amount of time, talents and treasures as I do other things in my life? Am I putting anything, including myself, above God?”

1Corinthians 10:1-11 – “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”

Song Lyrics: “You've got your best man on the front side; you always show your best side; and evil's always on the other side. You say this is your strategy, but son, I hope you take it from me -- you look just like your enemy! You're full of pride! We better trash our idols if we want to be in the army of the Lord. And the greatest idol is you and me. We better get on the threshing floor. When will we learn that God's strategy is giving glory to the Lord? Star, how beautiful you shine! You shine more beautiful than mine, you shine from sea to shining sea. World-wide is your strategy, but shining star, I hope you see, if the whole wide world is staring straight at you, they can't see me.”

Oh, be careful little soul … satan wants to devour you! Pride brings shame, so be a dying star; the day star shines far brighter!
