Filthy language was once considered “taboo”, but now the “F” word seems to be in every other sentence on TV, social media, everywhere. No longer “bleeped out”, the world has accepted and even embraced it. Yes, it’s just a word. But words mean things. People say, “Jesus!” or “Oh, my God!” when exclaiming something … but is He really? Is He really their God?
If you are a follower of Jesus through spiritual birth, your slate has been wiped clean! But now you are called to be set apart; to live a clean life. The world thinks it’s cool to use filthy language, but Jesus says to put off filthy communication. Be different! We used to have a poster on our homeschool wall that said, “If you follow the crowd, you’ll never find your own way.” Jesus is The Way! Don’t follow the crowd, follow Jesus.
If you’ve developed a bad language habit, determine to clean up your act. Words mean things. Maybe your words or thoughts aren’t filthy, but hurtful or mean. Whatever it is that needs cleaning in your life, make a change for the better. God doesn’t ask much of us for what we get in return. Surely we can work to set ourselves apart from the world and show them just how awesome our God really is!
Acts 3:19 - “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Titus 2:14 - “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” 1Peter 2:9 - “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” Colossians 3:8 - “But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.” Matthew 12:36-37 – “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
Song Lyrics: I see shattered, Jesus, You see whole. I see broken, but You see beautiful and You're helping me to believe. You're restoring me piece by piece. There's nothing too dirty that You can't make worthy! You wash me in mercy, your grace can make me clean! Your gift of salvation can make the dead live again! My heart's beating inside my chest! I’m spiritually born again! Now I'm alive with joy and destiny because Jesus has redeemed me. Lord, Thank You for Your sacrifice … Your blood flowed red and made me white! My dirty rags are purified. I am clean!
Thank You, Jesus for seeing us differently and for your gift that, if we accept it, will wipe our slates clean.
