Words, once spoken, cannot ever become unspoken. You can’t hit the “delete” key and erase what has already been said. Words are powerful, both written and spoken ... they can build up or tear down the moment they are read or heard. God’s Word has much to say about our tongues and what comes from our mouth and lips. The Bible was penned by men but written through inspiration of God ... our very souls are able to be saved because of God’s grace and words!
2Samuel 23:2 - “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” Job 27:4 - “My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.” Psalms 12:3 - “The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:” Psalms 141:3 - “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” Job 33:3 - “My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.” Psalms 119:171 - “My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes.” Job 23:12 - “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Read what Proverbs Chapter 2 says about words
The Bible warns us about the power of words. Job felt they were even more important than food! Mean-spirited comments can open up the door to a world of insecurity, pain, sadness, grief. Alternately, words sweetly spoken can be uplifting, happy, encouraging, edifying. Believer, choose your words carefully … use them to show the goodness of the God that dwells within you!
