Passing the Torch

David of the Bible was a man after God’s own heart. Like us, he was human and made many mistakes, but he loved God and loved God’s Word.

The more you read the Bible, the more you know God and grow to Love Him. His Word is perfect; it is beautiful; it’s our compass for life and God's Love letter to us. We are commanded to share and teach it to our children. Never stop teaching (and it is never too late to start).

Proverbs 22:6 - “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Each generation is responsible for passing God's wisdom – passing the torch – to the next generation. Grandparents, this includes you!

Psalms 71:17-18 – “O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. 18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.”

‘Disciple’ means ‘to teach.’ When we are discipled, we learn the Word of God and grow closer to Him. Our close relationship with Christ should then fuel us to disciple the next generation.  But to be effective in teaching, we must not just transfer knowledge, but transfer our heart attitude; to live life according to His Word.

Children are great imitators ... so give them something great to imitate.

God warned Moses that His vengeance would come to those who turned away from Him. He also promised to be merciful to those Who sought Him and became His people. Those same promises are still true today. But how will our children know if they are not taught?

Deuteronomy 32:43 - “Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.”

We have a duty to teach God’s wisdom and knowledge to our children so they will be able to teach it to their children. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to guide you. Teaching the next generation is a continuous journey where we actively engage with the youth around us to equip and strengthen them for their spiritual journey.

4Him – “Future Generations”
4Him – “Future Generations”
Psalms 78:2-4 – “I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: 3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.”

If Christians don’t ‘pass the torch’ of God's goodness to the next generation, satan will be happy to step in and pass 'his torch', and it ain't good.
