We had some old family videos laying around that we watched recently. It is fun and almost surreal to see the kids when they were little, as well as other family members, some who have since passed away. It is a stark reminder of how time goes by so quickly and to make the most of each day; to enjoy the little ones at each new phase; to tell loved ones how much they mean to you while you still can. Looking back, what seems like an ordinary day isn’t really so “ordinary” after all. Don’t take for granted the people and moments God puts in your life. He’s got a plan … and all the puzzle pieces fit together perfectly, even if right now we can only see a few pieces here and there.
Death teaches similar lessons. We become painfully aware of the finality, the end of those cherished moments that once were considered “ordinary”. The words left unsaid or those we wish we hadn’t said. More endearing to the heart are the loving words we DID say and the things we DID do while we had the chance. Endings always come too fast, but they pass too slow. Don’t let these ordinary days pass you by!
Proverbs 27:1 - “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” 1Thessalonians 5:18 - “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Colossians 1:16 -“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” Eccelesiastes 3:1-4 – “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;"
Song Lyrics: It's the sunlight through the curtains, morning pushing back the night. It's my kids’ faces in the kitchen, little moons of borrowed light; they're on their tiptoes always reaching for something bigger than they are. It's holding them and knowing that I've caught a shooting star! It's the way they feel the music, spinning like the falling leaves. They’re poetry in motion and they want to dance with me! I know it won't always be like this; my eyes are open, and I don't want to miss these seemingly “ordinary” days. In a million little ways, I want to stay right here.
Heavenly Father, thank You for today and all You’ve given our family. Help me to appreciate every single moment and to teach our kids/grandkids about You and Your Love. Oh, the days are moving slowly but the years go by so fast. None of us are promised tomorrow. Father, let me linger in these moments before they turn into the past -- oh, how I want to make them last! I know it won't always be like this; help me not take for granted all the blessings You’ve given us. I don't want to miss these ordinary days.
