Are You Plugged In?

So many people today are living their lives filled with fear and doubt. The word ‘fear’ appears in the Bible 385 times; the word ‘afraid’ appears 189 times. God knew there would be situations in which we might feel afraid, so He tells us many times in His Word to not be afraid because He is with us. If we put our faith and trust in Jesus as Saviour, we become His child. And just as earthly fathers instinctively protect their children, our Heavenly Father will protect us; He will hold us in His hands.

If we truly have a “perfect love” for God, we will have a reverent fear for Him, acknowledging His power and strength, and need not fear anything or anyone else. God's power and strength will carry us through any situation.

There’s a simple solution to calming your fears … connecting to the resurrected Christ ... which will ‘plug you in’ to the power from on high.

Luke 24:44-49 – “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

How do you connect to the resurrected Christ? The first thing Jesus did in this passage (Luke 24:44-49) was to reconnect the disciples to the Scriptures. We won’t be connected to His resurrection power without being connected to His Word. The Bible is our ‘fueling station’ and we need to refuel ourselves daily in the Word of God!

Verse 45 says Jesus opened their understanding so they could understand the scriptures. Jesus will do the same for you. Before reading the Bible, simply pray and ask Jesus to help you understand what you are about to read.

It is vital that you’re ‘fueling up’ with the true Bible, not a modern version of it. Notice in Verse 46, Jesus says, “Thus it is written,” referring back to the Scriptures, not a new ‘version’, when He makes reference to His Word. It matters! God promised to preserve His Word (Psalms 12:6-7), so unless God doesn’t keep His promises (He does), why are new versions necessary? Will you believe man? or God?

We must also be connected to the mission. The Lord Jesus Christ made the mission clear to His disciples in Verse 48: they were to function as witnesses. Our mission is the same!

Often referred to as the ‘Great Commission’, Jesus tells His disciples in Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Look past ‘church’ and ‘religion’ … and see GOD! Christ-followers’ mission is to all nations, beginning where we are. In order to witness, we must first be endued with the Holy Spirit through spiritual birth. Believing in God is only a step (even satan believes in God). We can’t live the mission until we receive His Holy Spirit through spiritual birth … which gives us access to the power of God’s Spirit … and we are ‘plugged-in’ to His resurrection power!

John 3:5 - “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

Christians have two births:  (John 3:5-7) 1--Physical birth (born of water) from your mother. 2--Spiritual birth (born of the Spirit) from God; happens at the moment of salvation.

Christians have two baptisms: 1--Physical baptism: immersed in water with a public profession of spiritual birth that has previously taken place. (Matthew 3:11) 2--Spiritual baptism: happens at the moment of spiritual birth. God’s Spirit enters and lives inside of you. (1Cor. 6:11)

If you’re not ‘plugged in,’ today is the day! There’s power in the blood!

Are you living the ‘great commission’? Challenge yourself to share your testimony with at least one person this week. Always be ready to tell others about the hope of Christ in you (1Peter 3:15).
